Eckankar has an unbroken line of ECK Masters since the beginning of time. There has been 973 Living ECK Masters until now that have served to bring the teachings of ECK to the seekers of truth.
For the past two millennia, the ECK teachings have been in hiding to protect the masters and chelas from the dangers of the time. This changed in 1965 when Sri Paul Twitchell founded the modern day Eckankar.
Modern Eckankar
Eckankar organization was founded in 1965. Sri Paul Twitchell served as the Mahanta and published many introductory books and discourses to familiarize the seekers with the concepts of Eckankar.
After his passing in 1971, Sri Darwin Gross took over the role of Living ECK Master until the next Mahanta was ready to take the Rod of Power.
In 1981, Sri Harold Klemp became the Mahanta and has been serving since then.
The head of Eckankar has been moved twice until The Temple of ECK in Minnesota was ready in 1991.
